The Lake District

How long would it take you to get there? 1 hour, 33 minutes (via the A66)

When you think of postcard-perfect picturesque views, it’s hard not to think about the Lake District. It’s one of the most well-known destinations in the UK for a relaxing break. And, when you’re surrounded by stunning scenery, glassy lakes and rolling hills – it’s not difficult to see why! Not to mention, the food and drink is pretty great, too.

Kielder Forest Park

How long would it take you to get there? 2 hours, 18 minutes (via the A1(M))

We’re heading further up the country now to Kielder Forest Park, in the heart of rural Northumberland.

Kielder Forest is the largest forest in England – and it’s also home to the largest man-made lake in Europe. Plus, you’ll also find the darkest skies in the UK here – making looking upon an evening all the more special. So, regardless of what you’re into – cycling, walking – outdoor enthusiasts will have a ball here.

Whitby

Distance from Vasstech Northallerton: 45.5 miles

How long would it take you to get there? 1 hour, 13 minutes (via the A171)

Of course, no list of staycation destinations would be complete without the east coast. With its connections to Captain Hook and Count Dracula, Whitby is a quirky seaside town with narrow streets and a big heart.
And, it’s the perfect base for a staycation, too – with the quaint fishing villages of Staithes and Robin Hood’s Bay just a stone’s throw away. Plus, it’s overlooked by the Gothic ruins of Whitby Abbey; there’s nowhere else quite like it.

Bamburgh

Distance from Vasstech Northallerton: 102 miles

How long would it take you to get there? 2 hours, 11 minutes (via the A1 (M) and A1)

The second mention of Northumberland in this list had to go to Bamburgh. With rolling sand dunes and golden beaches, it’s more than worth the two-hour drive. Plus, you can experience Northumberland like never seen before with a visit to the magnificent Bamburgh Castle.

And, with plenty of walking trails surrounding the coastline, you’re sure to have a fantastic time – and get plenty of steps in!
