We’re heading further up the country now to Kielder Forest Park, in the heart of rural Northumberland.
Kielder Forest is the largest forest in England – and it’s also home to the largest man-made lake in Europe. Plus, you’ll also find the darkest skies in the UK here – making looking upon an evening all the more special. So, regardless of what you’re into – cycling, walking – outdoor enthusiasts will have a ball here.

Whitby

Of course, no list of staycation destinations would be complete without the east coast. With its connections to Captain Hook and Count Dracula, Whitby is a quirky seaside town with narrow streets and a big heart.
And, it’s the perfect base for a staycation, too – with the quaint fishing villages of Staithes and Robin Hood’s Bay just a stone’s throw away. Plus, it’s overlooked by the Gothic ruins of Whitby Abbey; there’s nowhere else quite like it.

The second mention of Northumberland in this list had to go to Bamburgh. With rolling sand dunes and golden beaches, it’s more than worth the two-hour drive. Plus, you can experience Northumberland like never seen before with a visit to the magnificent Bamburgh Castle.
