The best seaside fish & chips, according to Vasstech Teesside!
There are fewer things that bring more joy than enjoying a chippy at the seaside on a sunny day. Why do they always taste better at the coast?
Although Vasstech’s garage in Teesside is pretty local to some of the nation’s best-loved seaside resorts, it matters not when you can hop in your car and drive to any chippy of your choosing.
To say we’re connoisseurs of the humble fish and accompanying chip is an understatement, which is why nobody else is better ‘plaiced’ to name their top five coastal escapes – based on its fish & chips!
Falmouth
In fifth place (but by no means last) on our list is the Cornish seaside town of Falmouth.
Popular with students and holidaymakers alike, it’s no surprise that Falmouth is also an excellent spot to grab a chippy, too. We’d recommend checking out Harbour Lights if you’re in the area. The fish and chips are out of this world!
Padstow
Staying in Cornwall, in fourth place is Padstow. The bustling fishing port is on the north Cornish coast, surrounded by golden sandy beaches, and the perfect spot for a home holiday.
Grab a takeaway from Stein’s Fish & Chips, and watch the ebb and flow of the harbour. Sounds like a grand day out to us!
Saltburn-by-the-sea
Heading back up to God’s own country, in third place is Saltburn-by-the-sea. It was under the radar for a few years, but it’s now a tourist hotspot that gives the other East Coast resorts a run for their money!
And, like all other East Coast seaside towns, when in Rome, Saltburn… have a chippy! Look out for the Church Fish Shop… it oozes local charm, and the fish & chips are a winner.
Filey
Heading further down the East Coast now, Filey just missed out on the top spot. Filey may be small, but it has plenty of character (and fish and chip shops).
Without doubt, one of the best is Inghams Fish Restaurant, on Belle View Street. With both an eat-in restaurant and takeaway service available, it’s the perfect stop ahead of the drive back to Teesside.
Plus, Filey is also often overlooked in favour of other North Yorkshire resorts, like Scarborough and Bridlington. The good news is, if you decide to go – it’ll probably be quiet, too!
Whitby
Did you expect it to be anywhere different? Whitby is a winner (no matter which Vasstech garage you’re from). Steeped in gothic history and with a fish & chip shop on (what feels like) every corner – you’d be pushed to find a better chippy in Yorkshire (nay, the UK) than in Whitby!
If you’re wanting to sit in, head to the Star Inn The Harbour. Or, if you want to find a spot to watch the world go by, visit The Magpie Café first (it’ll be wrapped up within 24 hours of being caught).
(P.S. Whitby is just under an hour away from Vasstech’s garage in Teesside… so it could be a good shout for tea on a Friday night, too.)
