Scott Doughty, one of our talented Directors over at Vasstech Durham, has been an integral part of the Vasstech group for over 14 years.
Starting as an apprentice at Vasstech at the age of 17, progressing to a full-time technician 2 years later, my Vasstech journey has been a long, but jam-packed journey.
Where It All Began
My passion for bikes and their inner workings emerged from a young age, often repairing them at home. This interest seamlessly transitioned into a career in the motor trade – hence, my beginnings at Vasstech which is where I’ve been ever since.
Specialising in commercial VW vehicles, diving deep into everything from the common 2.0tdi to the less seen 2.5tdi Transporters, my expertise ranges. And as hybrid and electric vehicles emerge, I’ve jumped into training courses to stay ahead, ensuring I’m up-to-date with the latest from VAG.
On the Job
Customer involvement drives me – going on test drives to replicate vehicle issues helps pinpoint problems accurately. After diagnosis, I make it a point to have clear, comprehensive discussions with customers about required repairs.
My favourite challenges are delving into intricate projects, such as an Audi RS4 engine timing chain change. It’s no small task, but the satisfaction of bringing an engine back to life is worth it.
Collaboration is key. I’m in constant communication with our tech team, aiming for speedy and accurate vehicle diagnoses that we can relay to our service advisors for customer updates.
Off the Clock
My passion for wheels takes me to MotoGP, Formula 1, and circuits like Silverstone, Cadwell Park, and Donington.
When I’m not immersed in the automotive world, I’m scaling rocks or biking through picturesque trails in France, Switzerland, and Italy.
The love of the job is what drives me, and I’m proud to have seen how the Vasstech brand has soared in the last 14 years.
